Book Travels of 2010 ( cont. )

....Looking for a great salad dressing recipe? - - we learned all about it in Paul Newman and A.E Hotchner's book, Paul and Me.  A great delicacy on how A.E and Paul created Newman's Own brand of foods and their 53 years of friendship. Do you know A.E. was publisher and friends of Ernest Hemingway? Talk about knowing people. I wonder if they were facebook friends?  If you've read this book you'll also love the tale, Shameless Exploitation by both Paul and A.E.  Shameless gets more detailed into how they created their salad dressing and pitched it at local neighborhood gatherings and markets. All the profits from Newman's Owns go to charity and help fund the Hole in the Wall gang camps for terminally ill children.  From Cool Hand Luke to the Sundance kid to a simple concoction of vegetables and seasoning to funding childrens camps the world wide, what a way to leave your mark on the world!  Have you seen the movie, Nobody's Fool, with Paul, Melanie Griffith and Bruce Willis? Hysterical. Based on the book by Richard Russo, Paul plays a construction owner who's appetite for mischief goes without notice while he reconciles with his son and grandson.

We traveled from Brooklyn to Hollywood through the eyes of Jerry Weintraub in When I Stop Talking, You'll Know I'm Dead: Useful Stories from a Persuasive Man  Ever heard of John Denver? Jerry tells a Rocky Mountain High tale of how we discovered John,  negotiated with Col. Tom Parker at a roulette wheel in Vegas to  represent and take Elvis on the road and managed some blue eyed guy named Frank. Numerous stories about a few guys named Clooney, Pitt and Damon as he produced the Ocean's movies. The Bush Family to Led Zepplin to Dorothy Hamill to producing the "Oh God" movies with George Burns and Denver, he has one helluva Rolodex. Oh God, the phones ringing, gotta go, it might be Jerry calling......until next time, share a book with a friend.
