"Let the River Run.." and your emotions will flow!

Paddling around the web, looking for something, can't remember what, I clicked on a link regarding Carly Simon.  Having not kept up with her music for some time, I streamed through websites, learning more and more until...

I anchored on an interesting page.

The United Kingdom's inaugural City of Culture award and a video promoting the winning city of Derry~ Londonderry with Carly's song, "Let the River Run" as the soundtrack.

You know the feeling.  We've all felt it. When you hear, read, or see something that...moves you. Chills, goose bumps, watery eyes. Passion. We've all felt it.

A voice emerges early in this film. A voice that will move you. Lead vocals from a virtual unknown. Vocals from a beautiful, young woman from Ireland. One album, CD or iTune, whatever you want to call it. One things for certain when you hear, Mairead Carlin, you'll want to call her, angelic.

The video is a extraordinary montage of culture, diversity, music, art, dance and the love a city has for it's own.  Carly Simon upon viewing said, " I just played it and cried my eyes out and am still crying. It's absolutely stunningly wonderful. Thank you for doing me proud. Every one of those singers and players and dancers added the spirit that I only imagined could possibly be added in my dreams. There is so much light here that I know we'll get to the new Jerusalem!!! " *

Bravo to the UK for starting this program.

Mairead Carlin:

"Let the River Run..." and your emotions will flow!

Let The River Run:

... Let the river run,
Let all the dreamers
Wake the nation.
Come, the New Jerusalem.

Silver cities rise,
The morning lights
The streets that meet them,
And sirens call them on
With a song.

It's asking for the taking.
Trembling, shaking.
Oh, my heart is aching.

We're coming to the edge,
Running on the water,
Coming through the fog,
Your sons and daughters.

We the great and small
Stand on a star
And blaze a trail of desire
Through the dark'ning dawn.

It's asking for the taking.
Come run with me now,
The sky is the color of blue
You've never even seen
In the eyes of your lover.

Oh, my heart is aching.
We're coming to the edge,
Running on the water,
Coming through the fog,
Your sons and daughters.

It's asking for the taking.
Trembling, shaking.
Oh, my heart is aching.

We're coming to the edge,
Running on the water,
Coming through the fog,
Your sons and daughters.

Let the river run,
Let all the dreamers
Wake the nation.
Come, the New Jerusalem.

  1. Making Derry a City of Culture is commonly known as trying to polish a turd. It's easy to fly in,sing about it and fly back to England. We who have to live hear know the city in the video does not exist.
